FREE SCREENING OF "FOOD, INC." TONIGHT

BAD MOVIE NIGHT TONIGHT AT THE DARK ROOM, $5 "MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON"
We think part of the reason to pay $5 at the Dark Room to see a bad movie like this that is probably on Turner Classics as part of your basic cable package right now as we key this in, is that it's more fun to see a bad movie with a bunch of other people who also think it's a bad movie. Group groan, anyone? Think about it.
Tonight it's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, starring one of America's corniest actors, Jimmy Stewart as a Congressman who does the right thing. Hokey. So be sure you don't choke-y on your popcorn between guffaws.
The Dark Room is located at 2263 Mission Street (between 18th & 19th).

FREE SCREENING OF "IRMA LA DOUCE" TONIGHT, 5 PM
Ooops, sorry -- we just found out that the French cultural and educational center, the Alliance Française, has been showing FREE movies all month -- all shot in or set in Paris as part of a "20 Films in Paris" series. Our bad.
But we hope we can redeem ourselves by letting you know that tonight you can see the comedy classic "Irma La Douce" starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine (1963), directed by Billy Wilder. And, as an added bonus we can let you know that Wednesday night's Frenchie flick is Le Voyage du Ballon Rouge (2008), starring Juliette Bincohe. Subtitled in English.
Both films start at 5 pm. Click here for complete deets.

FREE MOVIE NIGHT AT ON THE CORNER - BULLITT

The "Bullitt" car chase scene is as famous for showing off the streets of San Fran as it is for taking some twists and turns that fling our hero Bullitt from one end of the city to the other. Take a right at Potrero Hill and you'll be in North Beach? And other impossibilities made possible only through the magic of film...oh, and now re-created on Google maps -- check out the "Bullitt" car chase on Google maps here.

On the Corner at 359 Divisadero (@ Oak) does FREE movie night tonight (and every Thursday), starting at 9:30 pm sharp. Tonight's flick is the Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles (1974) -- and the On the Corner cafe will even throw in some FREE popcorn.
Come watch Gene Wilder, Cleavon Little, Harvey Korman and Madeline Kahn cut up on the cafe's 9' x 12' screen and hang out with the locals (and/or other Mel Brooks fans). Drink specials, pizza specials, and did we say popcorn? Oh, yeah.
Check out some more Nights at the Corner -- Tuesday is for knitters and Wednesday is for board games (supplied by neighbor Gamescape, so this ain't exactly your grandmother's board game night).
What was that address again?

Watch trailer above -- seeing is believing. Then catch a rare showing of Truck Turner tonight at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Screening Room, Terrace Level of the Galleries and Forum Building, 701 Mission @ 3rd.

VIRTUAL JFK FLICK AT THE RED VIC

Multiple screenings and prices. Matinees are just $7.
What if Kennedy wasn't killed on that dark day in Dallas and went on to win a second term in 1964? Would the Vietnam War have escalated as it did under subsequent presidents Johnson and Nixon? Would the '60s have been the '60s? Filmmaker Koji Masutani uses an array of resources including recently declassified and never-before-seen archival footage, documents and audio tapes to create a "virtual history".

HULA TIME: DIAMOND HEAD PLAYS TODAY AT THE CASTRO THEATRE

The festival guide describes the film as:
A bigoted white plantation owner (Charlton Heston) resents native Hawaiians and mixed-bloods taking over his inheritance in this steamy, spectacular widescreen soap opera of changing political landscapes and interracial romance.
But if you haven't already grabbed your umbrella and headed out for some faux aloha with a dash of Yvette Mimieux (she plays Heston's kid sister), here's more from the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
The San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival runs through March 22, so still plenty of time to catch some cool flicks.
