Drop by the Lost Art Salon tonight, from 5:30-8:30, for an art opening featuring the work of the late Gary Lee Shaffer and a modern dance performance set to world music - FREE. Drinks and hors d'ouevres will be served.
The Lost Art Salon is a gem of find in San Francisco. They lovingly collect lost art and objects from circa 1900 to 1970 (and occasionally the artists who created said lost art and objects) and put on a show. Tonight's features the work of Gary Lee Shaffer and his iconic, large-scale stone lithographs created in New York City, where he lived between 1959 and 1967.
Sadly, Mr. Shaffer (1936-2001) won't be in attendance. But a good deal of his post-war abstract expressionism -- lost on most of us until now -- will. The Lost Art Salon is a small space, but somehow they're going to clear enough of it for two modern dance performances, one at 7 and another at 7:45. So, do drop by. The Lost Art Salon is at 245 S. Van Ness #303 @ 13th / Duboce -- and yes, there's FREE parking under the overpass.
